I went for the Welsh Rabbit version of this flatbread with a delicious topping of leeks and cheese which Dan Lepard suggests as an alternative way to finish this bread and this is how it turned out. As the topping involved a sloosh of real ale we finished the bottle of St Peter’s Organic with our supper. Win win!

We ended up with an enormous bubbling bread which filled the house with good smells and pleased Brian no end as he has been doing all the cooking lately. Continue reading

Another view of the garden

I have got a lovely apple cake recipe to post but in the meantime here are some eccentric crumb shots. Brian went and got me another camera the other day, second hand, he loves second hand camera shops, so I am dutifully playing with it…

Tomatoes ripening on the windowsill, a forlorn red pepper plant, a vegetable bed coming to the end of the season, except it has suddenly got ridiculously warm here today.

And some delicious sourdough, but I am getting repetitive… see you later in the week!

Two Breads for Sunday Morning

A choice of bread this morning, soft white bread made with creme fraiche for the toothly challenged one with a series of dental appointments to come and a hybrid sourdough/yeast with a good proportion of Swiss Dark Flour for me. Why the hybrid? It’s what I do when there is a big bowl of perfect starter waiting and it’s late and I don’t want to be baking retarded loaves in the morning. I just add a pinch of yeast, put the little oven on to its lowest temperature of 30 C and move the bread on a bit quicker and that way I can bake it before I go to bed and have a quiet morning.
